Montgomery Central made school history last night with their comeback win over Hardin County, 17-14, in the first round of the TSSAA Playoffs at Cunningham.
Quarterback Ben Dawson led the Indians on a game-clinching drive, getting the ball on their own 20-yard-line, trailing the visiting Tigers 14-9 with 3:25 left in the game. Montgomery Central scored with :55 left on the clock as Devontay Skelton crossed the goal-line on a pitch and sweep to the left side. Skelton also scored the two-point conversion, which put further pressure on North Hardin as they tried to get themselves in field goal range for a tie. But the Indian defense caused the Hardin County quarterback to cough the ball up–the second turnover of the game for the visitors–and the celebration began for the Indians as they became the first team in school history to win a playoff game.
Montgomery Central will travel to Jackson next Friday for the second round game against Jackson North-Side. Kickoff is 7:00 PM.
