BRADEN WOOD for BOOM!
Clarksville Academy got a huge win over Jackson Christian 35-6 Friday night as they continue to make a push for hosting playoff game. Jackson Cristian Eagles, who really took care of the Clarksville Academy Cougars last year did not have the same luck this time around.
The Cougars were very efficient on offense tonight. Academy scored four touchdowns on their first five drives of the first half to give them a 28-6 lead going into halftime. Senior quarterback Bryce Robinson totaled over 300 yards of offense, 173 of those yards came through the air. Junior wideout Deiondre Wilson hauled a little over 100 of those passing yards from Robinson.
The only negative to take away from Academy’s offense Friday night was how many times they put the ball on the ground. Two lost fumbles stalled the Cougars in what looked like a few promising drives. In the end, none of those fumbles made a difference as they were able to cruise to a win.
Clarksville Academy’s defense looked phenomenal versus the Eagles usually stout offense. They got to the quarterback more than a handful of times, and only allowed 3 yards per carry against the run. Academy was also able to force some turnovers as well. Senior defensive back and wideout TJ Jenkins was able to pick off a long pass right before halftime to stop a Jackson Christain drive that had some momentum. Senior Linebacker Calvin Grey has had multiple doubts digit tackle games, and he was able to do the same Friday night, as he recorded 11 tackles.
With four games to go on the schedule, Clarksville Academy is sitting good right now at (4-2) overall and (2-1) in their district with hopes of hosting a playoff game.
An away game at Tipton-Rosemark Academy (4-2) in Millington, Tennessee is next for the Cougars. They also won on Friday night, beating Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering by a score of 42-0.
