CLARKSVILLE (August 16, 2018) The Northeast High School Lady Eagles came away with the 4-1 victory over the Clarksville Academy Lady Cougars at Winn Soccer Complex at Clarksville Academy on Thursday.
Both teams came into the match looking for their first win. Northeast, coming off a loss to Montgomery Central, and Clarksville Academy coming off two losses to open up their year via Harpeth and Macon County.
The Lady Eagles came out of the gate very strong and dominated possession and kept it that way the majority of the first half. After many shot attempts, the Lady Eagles finally got on the scoreboard at the 27:00 mark in the first half, thanks to Junior forward Alyssa Buchanan.
As the first half was winding down, Clarksville Academy finally had something to cheer about. After a corner kick and a quick rebound, sophomore Leah Hayes found the back of the net for the Lady Cougars at the 4:00 mark to tie up the game at 1-1.
That momentum did not last long for the Lady Cougars. Just after the second half got underway, Northeast was able to draw a penalty that resulted in a penalty kick. With one goal already, Alyssa Buchanan took the PK and drilled it just to the left of CA’s goal keeper Summer Long to put the Lady Eagles up 2-1.
The goal set up Northeast to go on a two-goal run to close out the game. The third goal came thanks to Northeast freshman midfielder Savannah Haupt to increase the lead 3-1 in favor of the Lady Eagles. Alyssa Buchanan finished her outstanding evening by beating Academy’s Summer Long once again by a lob shot over her head as a result of a breakaway.
Clarksville Academy Lady Cougars move to 0-3 on the season, as the Northeast Lady Eagles move to 1-1 on the year.
Clarksville Academy will play their next game on August 20 at home against the Kenwood Lady Knights (0-1) at 5 pm. Northeast will try to build on this win as they face the Clarksville High School Lady Wildcats (2-1-1) at home on August 21 at 6 PM.
