CLARKSVILLE, TN: Despite a convincing team win in the District 10-AAA tournament, Clarksville boys golf coach Ken Busbee says his Wildcats will have to play much better to overtake Region 5 opponents like Hendersonville, last year’s champion who returns four of five players.

“We will probably have to shoot a 300 to win,” Busbee said on Friday. Clarksville won the district championship by 13 strokes with a score of 322 for the team.

“We haven’t played well lately,” Busbee said. “If we can get them to playing like they were at the beginning of the year we have a shot this Monday.  Hendersonville has a very good team …I do believe we can (win)…we just have to focus on the shot in front of us and not worry about the previous shots in the round.

Aiden Baker was individual medalist at the district tournament, and the sophomore (who averages around 73) leads a group of four golfers that Clarksville will count on for the region tournament.

• Junior Matthew Mund (averages around an 81)

• Senior Taylor Ray (averages around an 82)

• Senior Hogan Wiggins (averages around an 82)

Also competing will be Rossview’s team of Dylan Cottrell, Sean Gardner, Samuel Stanton, Efrain Figueroa, and Jacob Zydel. Henry County will also send a team, and individuals from several area teams will compete for a chance to got to the state tournament.

The Region 5 tournament starts at 8 AM tomorrow (Monday, September 17) at Long Hollow Golf Course in Hendersonville. Clarksville boys tee off beginning with Baker at 8:00, and each of the other four golfers follow off of Tee 1 every 10 minutes after.
