Dodging raindrops is a big enough challenge for District 10AAA tennis teams, but they also have to face dominant Rossview boys and girls teams, headed by two players who are undefeated in district play.
The semi-finals for singles and doubles will continue on Monday, May 6 at 3 pm at Swan Lake Tennis Facility in Clarksville. The team finals will be played on Tuesday (they were rained out Wednesday), with Rossview boys meeting Henry County, and Rossview girls facing Clarksville High.
On the boys side, Hawk’s Thiago Nogueira is not only looking to repeat as district champion but is looking for his second consecutive region championship as well. So far this year, he has not given up more than one game in any district match.
Madison Windham will be the favorite to win her second girls district title. She and Nogueira both dominated the district tournament last year, and according to their coach, Chris Hester, are playing better this year.
Nogueira is a senior and will be playing for APSU next year.
“(Thiago) has a dominant forehand and is an intense competitor,’ Hester said. “His serve is one of the best I have seen and uses to his advantage. He also takes the time to help other players and mentors their game. He will definitely be missed nest year.”
Hester describes Windham as “a very patient and consistent player. She has no weak spots in her game for other players to take advantage of. Not only is she a great competitor but she is a great leader for our team and shows support to all players. She makes every player on our team better.”
Rossview’s individuals and doubles tournament boys and girls combined for a 17-2 record in Day 1 Play.
